Manaus is a truly contrasting city. The tour begins by enjoying the riverside area; the historic center, with the prefabricated English house where the Customs House now stands; and Praça de São Sebastião. One of the biggest attractions is the Teatro Amazonas, where many famous artists – such as Caruso – have performed, a relic of the golden years of rubber extraction. Built in 1896 and recently restored to its full splendor, this fabulous concert hall seems completely out of place in such a dense jungle.
Next, a visit to the Indian Museum, dedicated to the indigenous cultures of the region, lost in time: wooden blowpipes, penachos and many other props of unknown use. After the tour of the historic part of Manaus, on the way back to the hotel, we will pass by the Municipal Market structure, built at the beginning of the century and located near the docks, currently undergoing internal restructuring.
