Ecoturismo – Lençóis Maranhenses

DAY 1 – São Luís
Arrival in São Luís in the morning, reception and transfer to the chosen hotel. At around 3:30 pm, departure to visit the Historic Center, accompanied by a local guide and young guides from Projeto Nosso Patrimônio, to see the main tourist attractions of the city, named a World Heritage Site, with its beautiful mansions, hills and alleys. Overnight in São Luís.

DAY 2 – São Luís/Barreirinhas/Caburé
Departure from the hotel between 7:00 and 8:00 in the morning heading to Barreirinhas in a regular van or minibus, with air conditioning (journey lasting approximately 3h30min). On the way there will be a stop for those who wish to have a regional breakfast (not included). Reception in Barreirinhas, followed by a boat trip along the Preguiças River. Our destination is the APA (Environmental Protection Area) of Pequenos Lençóis, with a visit to Vassoura, where there is a fishing colony on the banks of the river. We will continue to Caburé, a point of sand surrounded on one side by the Preguiças River and on the other by the sea, with deserted beaches. Stop for lunch (included). Then, we will go for a walk or go by boat to Ponta do Brasília, the place where fresh and salt water meet and where, in the late afternoon, most of the region’s birds migrate to sleep. We will return to the town of Caburé for accommodation and overnight at Pousada Porto Buriti. If there is no confirmation in Caburé, we will have the option of Pousada Rancho dos Lençóis, in Atins.

Tip: Leave São Luís with your swimwear and hand luggage, as check-in in Caburé will only be done at the end of the day, after the tour.

Note: For those who choose to go to Barreirinhas on a single-engine plane, the flight will be in the morning, between 7:00 am and 11:00 am – the time to be confirmed will depend on space availability, as they are small aircraft. Trip duration: 50min.

DAY 3 – Caburé/Barreirinhas
After breakfast, check out of the guesthouse. We will continue by speedboat to visit a typical fishing community: Mandacaru. Climb to the lighthouse from where you can admire the landscape of the mouth of the Preguiças River and the dunes that border the river and the sea. Stop for lunch (not included). We will return to Barreirinhas by speedboat and visit the village of Tapuio, on the banks of the Preguiças River, and the Casa de Farinha e Olaria, where we will learn about the artisanal manufacturing process of flour, bricks and tiles typical of the region. Overnight in Barreirinhas.

DAY 4 – Barreirinhas
After breakfast, we will head out in a 4×4 vehicle along the sand trails until we reach the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. We will leave the vehicle and walk until we reach the lagoons. After stopping for a snack on the trail, we will continue to visit other lagoons in the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. Return to Barreirinhas in the late afternoon.

DAY 5 – Barreirinhas/São Luís
Free morning for shopping and walking around the city of Barreirinhas. At 5:00 pm we will take the air-conditioned van (regular line) that will travel on asphalt – approximately 3h30min journey. There will be a stop for a snack (not included) during the trip. Arrival scheduled for 9pm. Transfer to hotel for overnight stay in São Luís.

DAY 6 – São Luís
Free morning. At the appropriate time, transfer to the airport and board your next destination.
