Lençóis Maranhenses – 6 Days / 5 Nights

DAY 1 – São Luís
Arrival in São Luís in the morning, reception and transfer to the hotel of your choice.
In the afternoon, departure for a visit to the Historic Center, accompanied by a local guide and child guides from the Nosso Patrimônio Project, to see the main sights of the city, a World Heritage Site, with its beautiful mansions, hillsides and alleys. Overnight in São Luís.

DAY 2 – São Luís/Barreirinhas/Caburé
Departure from the hotel between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. for Barreirinhas in air-conditioned vehicles (approximately 4 hours). On the way, a stop will be made for those who wish to have a regional breakfast (not included). Reception in Barreirinhas, followed by a speedboat ride along the Preguiças River. Our destination is the APA (Environmental Protection Area) of Pequenos Lençóis, with a visit to Vassoura, where there is a fishing colony on the banks of the river. We’ll continue on to Caburé, a point of sand surrounded on one side by the Preguiças River and on the other by the sea, with deserted beaches. Stop for lunch (included). Afterwards, we’ll go for a walk or take a boat to Ponta do Brasília, where the fresh water meets the salt water and where, in the late afternoon, most of the region’s birds migrate to sleep. We will return to the village of Caburé for accommodation and overnight. If Caburé is not confirmed, we have the option of Pousada Rancho dos Lençóis in Atins.

Tip:
Leave São Luís with bathing suits and hand luggage, as check-in at Caburé will only be at the end of the day, after the tour.

Note:
For those who choose to fly to Barreirinhas by single-engine plane, the flight will be in the morning, between 7am and 11am – the time to be confirmed will depend on availability, as they are small aircraft. Flight time: 50 minutes.

DAY 3 – Caburé/Barreirinhas
After breakfast, check-out from the pousada. We will take a speedboat to visit a typical fishing community: Mandacaru. Climb up to the lighthouse from where you can admire the landscape of the mouth of the Preguiças River and the dunes that line the river and the sea. Stop for lunch (not included). We’ll return to Barreirinhas by speedboat and visit the village of Tapuio, on the banks of the Preguiças River, and the Casa de Farinha and Olaria, where we’ll learn about the process of making flour, bricks and tiles typical of the region. Overnight in Barreirinhas.

DAY 4 – Barreirinhas
After breakfast, we’ll set off in a 4×4 vehicle along sandy trails until we reach the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. We will leave the vehicle and walk along the lagoons. After stopping for a snack on the trail, we will continue to visit other lagoons in the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. Return to Barreirinhas in the late afternoon.

DAY 5 – Barreirinhas/São Luís
Free morning for shopping and sightseeing in the city of Barreirinhas.
In the afternoon, transfer in an air-conditioned vehicle that will drive on asphalt (approximately 4 hours). There will be a snack stop (not included) during the trip. Arrival at the hotel in São Luís. Check-in.

DAY 6 – São Luís
Free morning. At an appropriate time, transfer to the airport and board your flight to your next destination.
