Itacaré
Bahia’s Cocoa Coast is home to a unique stretch of preserved Atlantic Forest and mountainous terrain. Here, 440 km south of Salvador and 70 km north of the city of Ilhéus, we find Itacaré. “Discovered” by surfers, Itacaré has deserted beaches with clear blue seas and trails through the Atlantic Forest that lead to waterfalls, coconut groves and cocoa plantations, ideal for practicing adventure sports such as rafting and abseiling.
Walks along the Rio das Contas allow you to observe the unique mangroves. As well as nature, Itacaré has also managed to preserve its history, with buildings dating back to the 18th century, and its culture, the exponent of which is capoeira. Right next door, the Maraú Peninsula is still unspoiled and little known, thanks to its difficult access.
The peninsula, which stretches in a south-north direction, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Camamu Bay on the other, has deserted beaches and freshwater lagoons in its interior, an ideal region for those seeking tranquillity and wilder natural landscapes.
